Deborah Baddoo is co-founder/Artistic Director of State of Emergency, a pioneering and highly acclaimed performance and production company committed to the creation of high quality work and to creativity and innovation in the fields of dance and music. Over the last 15 years, the company has toured nationally with over 12 productions as well as international shows in Canada, USA, Germany and South Africa. Highlights include the commission for the Cultural Olympiad year; Desert Crossings, an expansive work made in partnership with the Jurassic Coast Team, and international dance and live music production Where Is Home? a collaboration between South African and UK choreographers and musicians. 

Throughout her career Deborah has pursued a passionate, long-term vision to support the development of Black dance and choreography nationally and internationally, setting up a national Strategic Network, raising the profile and reputation of many Black UK choreographers and dancers and establishing the UK’s first National Archive for Black dance. A highly respected figure in the dance world, Deborah was awarded an MBE for services to British dance in 2010.
