Blog - RTYDS / Day 5: Working with actors

The final day of the week-long course for new directors solely focused on working with actors. Course lead Cheryl Martin had selected ‘Red Velvet’ by Lolita Chakrabarti. The play’s about the biography of the 19th century black actor Ira Aldridge and his role as Othello. Cheryl decided on the work as it’s full of subtext so providing the directors much potential for play.

We were joined by regional performers Everal Walsh and Madleine Shann. The trainee directors worked in pairs followed by a sharing with notes at the end of the day
