In partnership with Curious Arts; as part of Curious Festival 2018

Afshan D’souza-Lodhi chairs a discussion on the issues faced by Black queer artists based in northern England. Amongst other things the panel will discuss creating work at the intersection of race and sexual identity, and taking work to a wider audience without diluting its integrity.

The panel includes: Darren Pritchard, Adam Lowe and Abena Taylor-Smith.

Adam Lowe is a writer and publisher from Leeds, currently living in Manchester. He writes about the black British, LGBT and disabled experiences, through poetry, plays and prose.

Abena Taylor-Smith is a freelance writer-director. Her work has been published in award winning magazines such as gal-dem, Black Ballad and Diva. She likes to explore themes of blackness, queerness and womanhood in her writing.

Darren Pritchard is a performer, choreographer, teacher, producer and director. His main work in is the field of contemporary dance and experimental theatre, but he also works in the worlds of film and fashion. He is a collaborator as well as a creator and performer.
