In the first Slate Connect event we’ll be teaming up with Arts Centre Washington for a Meet the Artist event in the centre of Sunderland.

MEET THE ARTIST: Shane Shambhu

Ahead of his eagerly anticipated performance of Confessions of a Cockney Temple Dancer, Shane Shambhu – dancer, comedian, performer visits Sunderland for some chat, a bit of dance and some Funky Indian cuisine!

About Arts Centre Washington 

Arts Centre Washington provides a year-round mixed programme of theatre, music, exhibitions, dance, comedy and film, as well as a whole range of participatory activities for all members of the community.

The centre houses a 120 seat theatre, rehearsal rooms, artists’ studios and a recording studio. ACW’s cultural programme is managed by Sunderland Culture.


Confessions of a Cockney Temple Dancer  is at Arts Centre Washington on Thur 2 May, 7.30pm, £9 / £7.50 (conc).

In this funny and honest solo Shane Shambhu combines Indian dance and stand-up comedy to lead audiences on a revealing journey of his life experiences. From unlikely Indian dance student to “rude boy” to international performer.

With his inimitable charm and wit, Shane will have you laughing out loud as he reveals his past through a vivid display of characters, lived experiences and comical stories, reflecting on how race, language, cultures and identity have defined him and his career.
