Completion of Eclipse's Slate: Black · Arts · World project...

The end of 2019 sees the completion of Eclipse's three year Slate: Black · Arts · World project. Having supported over 2,000 Black artists across the North of England and commissioned 12 brave new works during that time, the project was celebrated at a four day festival earlier this year in Sheffield. Slate Weekender, curated by Melanie Abrahams and supported by City of Ideas, showcased the new wave of Black artists in the North. This video takes a look back at the weekend in Sheffield:

None of this work could have been possible without the efforts and commitment of the Slate Enablers - a cohort of Black Arts Professionals based across the North. Together they organised events across the country, provided bespoke support to thousands of Black artists and helped realise the aim of the project to increase access to local, national and international networks. This is only the beginning. Co-funded by the Creative Europe Programme of the European Union, Slate World sees Eclipse working with partners in Lisbon and Amsterdam in a two year project promoting the visibility and mobility of Black artists and professionals across Europe.
