Whats the One Thing that you Need To Say But Have Never Dared?
And Who Needs to Hear It?

My Post 2

A series of personal letters by Black and ethnically diverse writers from across the North, explore the personal and political of the things we dont dare say. Sometimes funny, sometimes poignant, sometimes political and full of fire, these letters will be written and sealed, to be opened and read out loud by the actors, who will only see the letters for the first time in front of the audience, on the night.

These new letters will be performed alongside Rachel De-Lahays original letter, building on her ground-breaking My White Best Friend (and other letters left unsaid), first performed at The Bunker and the Royal Court in London to critical acclaim. 19 Black and ethnically diverse writers across the North have been commissioned in this collaboration between Everyman & Playhouse theatres, Eclipse Theatre and Royal Exchange Theatre, to give over the stage to these moments left unsaid.

Theatre in this country can be so London centric. Im so proud to see this project be taken up North. I cannot wait to hear these brilliant writers dare say things they have, up until now, kept quiet.” Rachel De-Lahay

Reviews on My White Best Friend (and Other Letters Left Unsaid):

“The words of My White Best Friend (and Other Letters Left Unsaid) hit actors and spectators simultaneously. The performers reading these fictional letters, giving voice to what it is to be Black in a white-curated world, opened their scripts for the first time in front of an online audience.” The Guardian

“Anger, anecdote, reflection fly off in all directions, sometimes sky-high; actors are occasionally almost crushed by the words." ★ ★ ★ ★ ★ The Observer | Susannah Clapp Read full review

“An overwhelmingly moving and powerful experience... generous in feeling, brave in its honesty and urgent in its politics.” ★ ★ ★ ★ The i Paper | Aleks Sierz  Read full review
